Is a metal roof better than shingles?

What led you to this question? Were you trying to install shingles but then you notice while researching they are not the best option? Or maybe you just discovered that metal roofs are an unusual option that no one would think about and as a result, all of them miss the opportunity to enjoy all the benefits?

Whatever it is, I’m happy you came up with this question or just felt attracted to it. To give you a direct answer, yes, a metal roof is a better option compared to shingles. But the best thing you can do whenever you search for answers, especially in the roofing field or related to it, is to answer the next question: why?

They aren’t particularly known for being what most homeowners choose for their property. And are they even what commercial property owners want? Well, they actually are. Focusing on shingles for a minute, I know they are quite popular for a reason in particular: the design and style you can obtain from their installation.

People just love how neat and stunning they look and this isn’t possible to deny. But as a property owner and someone who has gone through the process of installing and replacing a roofing system several times, the design isn’t everything. The aesthetical part or aspect of the roof you decide to install isn’t what should weigh the most during your decision.

And this has a lot to do when comparing shingles with metal roofs since I know you most likely have a bad concept in this area when it comes to the second ones. Well, metal roofs can also be stunning, it is all about making the right choices and taking the time to pick the materials, colors, textures, and specific metal roofing you want but also need.

And in the blink of an eye and with this alone, you will have just the same result as a shingle roof.

Durability and longevity? What about costs?

Here is when metal roofs start to shine and say “we are better” all the way:

They are much more durable and long-lasting. While shingles can last for around 20 to 25 years, metal ones just exceed themselves and your expectations by offering over 50 years.

This is all thanks to how they can stand everything that Mother Nature has in store for them and also, the maintenance you perform which isn’t often either. Meanwhile, shingles don’t always stand storms, heavy snow, or even rains, making them not the best investment if you are looking for one that will stay with you during the good and bad times.

What about the price? I have to give that point to shingles but what you need to ask yourself here is, at what cost truly? Do you want a cheaper roof that will last half or less of the time of a metal roof? Or do you want to invest a bit more for more longevity and durability? Anyone would go for the second option.

It is about the planet and future services

If you want an eco-friendly roof that will also save you time and money in future services related to its maintenance or repair, the metal one is the best.

You don’t have to deal with debris, a lot of waste, and it is quite cheap to get it repaired and perform maintenance every 10 years—or a bit less. There isn’t much you need to worry about in those aspects and that makes it even better for any property owner.

Thinking about it? Just go for that metal option before it is too late!
